Remember when Vioxx was pulled from the market in 2004? Since then, there have been nearly 27,000 lawsuits against the pain medication.
Patients and family members have claimed that Vioxx proved fatal or injured their loved ones. Now, Merck & Co. will pay four point $85 billion to settle those complaints, which will be binding if 85 percent of the plaintiffs agree.
Merck still faces a number of government investigations, both state and federal. Merck is based in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.
