For the first time researchers have cloned embryos from a monkey and extracted usable stem cells. Researchers have cloned other animals, like Dolly the sheep, but they've never been able to successfully clone a primate, which is similar to a human.
The report in the Journal Nature, says researchers used over 300 eggs from 14 monkeys to create two stem cells lines. Researchers hope that someday they will be able to use this procedure to create tissues that genetically match a patient. This will help eliminate the chance the body will reject the new tissue or organ.
