Lubbock Police Search for Illegal Immigrant, Wanted Sex Offender

Lubbock police are still searching for a wanted felon after a prostitution sting last November led to his arrest and then his release.

In 2006, undercover officers targeted two locations and arrested five men for soliciting sex. Two of those men were charged and both were bonded-out hours later. One of those men was Erasmo Varges, now age 40. He's an illegal immigrant convicted of sexual assault and was wanted on a federal warrant. While he was in custody at the Lubbock County Jail, time ran out to confirm his warrant, and he was able to bond out. NewsChannel 11 learned that Varges has many aliases and gave a false name at the time of his arrest, which slowed down the process.

At the time, the immigration department called Varges a "dangerous" illegal immigrant. They said he has ties here and could be hiding out in Lubbock.

Erasmo Varges

  • Hispanic Male
  • Age 40
  • 5 feet 6 inches
  • Approximately 160 pounds
  • Black hair
  • Brown Eyes

Varges has had many run-ins with the law dating back to 1990 when he was first deported. Then in 2000 he was charged with sexually assaulting an 18-year-old female in Lubbock County. He was convicted on those charges and deported for a second time in 2001. Varges resurfaced in the US in 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona and was deported for yet a third time. But this time a federal warrant for violation of immigration as a deported felon was issued. Meaning if he returned to the states he could serve up to 15 years.

Varges may also be known as:

  • Herasmo Vargas
  • Erasmo Frutes
  • Erasmo Vargasfrutis
  • Erasmo Fruitus
  • Marcus Varges
  • Marcus Fruitus

If you know Varges' whereabouts, you are asked to call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.
Callers can remain anonymous.
