Is there a child in your family begging for a four wheeler? You may want to write Santa a note on your own.
Researchers at the University of Arkansas have studied 500 consecutive cases of pediatric emergency room visits due to injuries from all terrain vehicles or ATVs. They found there were close to 100 skull fractures, 59 brain injuries, over 20 spine fractures, 12 amputations and 6 fatalities.
The study finds that ATV use by children is dangerous because of their small size and the instability of the vehicles.
Meanwhile, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends against kids under age 16 driving an ATV.
