Area Law Enforcement Responds to New Deal Shooting

New Deal traffic is moving smoothly again after emergency crews blocked off nearly a half mile of FM 1729.

Around 11:49 a.m., authorities responded to a call in the 600 block of E. Main.

"When we arrived on scene, we found there was a subject injured," said Steven Wheeler, New Deal Police Chief. "It appears it was a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head, but it is still under investigation."

For nearly two hours, police blocked traffic on FM 1729 and stopped an incoming train. Wheeler says this was so emergency personnel could reach the 35 year old man.

Aerocare flew the man to University Medical Center for treatment.

His name has not yet been released.
