More than 2,500 tickets have already been sold from Lubbock for the Gator Bowl in Florida. If you want to ring in the New Year with the Texas Tech football team it's going to cost you.
Texas Tech has been allotted 12,700 seats at the 63rd Annual Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. As of Monday evening they've already sold more than 2,500 tickets. Plenty of tickets are still available.
But once you purchase your ticket, it's getting to Florida that is the pricey part.
A seat inside Jacksonville Municipal Stadium will cost you $50 to $75 dollars. But some fans qualify for priority seating.
"The priority at this point works based on a Red Raider Club donation, season ticket holder status and then goes to alumni's," says Dave Welsh, the Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Operations at Texas Tech.
That priority status ends Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
Current Texas Tech students are also receiving special priority.
Current Tech students who come to the office with their Tech ID, if they are members can buy two tickets for half price. The tickets are normally $50. The discount makes them $25 each.
Purchasing your Gator Bowl ticket is the easy part, it's getting to Florida that could break your budget.
"I checked packages this morning. Two night packages leaving December 31st and coming back January 2nd, the best deal I've seen is on Continental Airlines. It's about $750 for flights, hotel and rental car," says Whitney Norman, a travel agent for Bell Travel Services.
Norman says you can save money by flying out of Dallas for about $500 per person.
"I would recommend to people if they have any frequent flier miles on Continental, American or Southwest to not only check Jacksonville but to check surrounding cities," says Norman.
So if you want to ring in the New Year in style the Red Raider Club is offering an exclusive fan travel package that includes round trip airfare, hotel stay and some other perks. Prices range from $1,530 to $1,170 per person based on how many are in your party. To register for the charter, contact National Travel Systems at (806) 794-3135 or (888) 603-8747.
"The sooner the better and packages usually give you a discount on airfare so I recommend doing a flight hotel car package," says Norman.
If you can't make it to the Gator Bowl in Florida, the game will be televised on CBS New Year's Day beginning at noon.
