I'll take a quick break from the great effort out at the U Can Share Food Drive to follow-up on a previous commentary. I didn't want this week to pass without thanking Covenant and Blue Cross Blue Shield for settling their differences.
Early on, I urged both sides to get a deal done because patients on the South Plains were being held hostage. Well, that's no longer the case as thousands can now return to their doctor of choice, within the Covenant group if they wish.
And thankfully, this scenario will not repeat itself this summer as the hospital contract was also tied in with the doctors.
So consider this, health care is getting more expensive. The last thing we need is for a contract dispute between insurers and hospitals to drive that cost even higher.
Time will tell if the BCBS/Covenant partnership is the best deal for patients. But at least now we have more options than we've had the past 60 days.
