Christmas Tree Lots Disappearing

The search for the perfect Christmas tree can be daunting - you know the perfect pre-lit artificial tree. But there are some traditionalists who want the real deal. And as NewsChannel 11 discovered they are getting harder to find in Lubbock.

Most of us will be rockin' around our Christmas tree this season - our pre lit artificial trees that is.

It seems the days of scouring a Christmas tree lot are quickly becoming a thing of the past. But there are some traditionalists who refuse to go plastic.

So where exactly can you find the real deal?

"We've sold almost 400 trees this year just in the past two months," says Tap Giblin, the assistant manager at Sutherland's.

Sutherland's is one of the dozen or so stores in Lubbock offering real Christmas trees.

"This year we stocked up a little better and we've been able to sell more because we had them in stock," says Giblin.

Sutherland's must be on Santa's good list because only 20 trees remain to be sold.

Artificial trees are designed to look like the real deal but the best way to spot an imposter is by taking a look at the price.

"We just want to make them affordable to everybody every year and we want to sell a lot of trees so we sell accordingly," says Ronnie McCann, with Lowe's Family Center.

At Lowe's Family Center real trees cost $25 to $50. An artificial pre lit tree will run you anywhere from $100 to $500.

Lowe's sells both types of trees and managers say they've noticed a specific trend.

"We sell a lot more fresh trees than we do artificial," says McCann.

Bah humbug say the people we spoke to.

"We have a fake tree," says one holiday shopper.

"We used to have a real tree for years and then I decided to make it easy on myself," says another holiday shopper.

"My husband doesn't like the scent of a real tree," says a holiday shopper.

So while artificial tree lots may be disappearing, you can still rock around the Christmas tree. You just have to know where to look.

Most of the retail stores selling Christmas trees will be reducing their prices within the next week.

You can find real Christmas trees at Lowe's Family Store on 82nd and Slide and 34th and Quaker.  Also you can find real Christmas trees at Sutherland's and Little Red Riding Hood.
