Supplements that can be purchased in health food stores and at other retailers may contain more than you bargained for. An English lab recently purchased 58 "best-selling" supplements that are most commonly used by male and female athletes. After extensive testing they found that 25 percent of the supplements contained only a small amount of steroid and that 11 percent contained the stimulant Ephedrine, which is illegal in the United States.
The testosterone boosters were the most contaminated, followed by weight loss products, and muscle building products. Ephedrine has been proven to stress the heart and has produced harmful, and sometimes fatal outcomes.
