Mall Security In The Wake Of Omaha Tragedy

In the wake of the Omaha, Nebraska mall shooting and during the busiest shopping season of the year, malls across the nation and here in Lubbock are more aware than ever about security.

"Our guest's and employee's safety is the number one concern for us," said Jack Boyster, South Plains Mall Senior Manager.

Officials at The South Plains mall want you to know they're ready if the worst were to happen.

"We have several procedures and policies in place that our security follows as well as working with local law enforcement," said Boyster.

In addition to the mall security personnel, you can count on plain-clothes off-duty Lubbock Police and police in full uniform to be out in increased numbers during the holidays. But security doesn't stop there.

"It's a crisis management plan that we have in place and we work through with law enforcement and the fire department. And it's a lot of very detailed, different scenarios that might happen," said Boyster.

But don't just count on security to handle it all. In today's world, mall security needs your help to keep us all safe.

"It's being aware of what's around you and reporting it too. If it looks out of place it might be, so let someone know," added Boyster.
