If they dig it up, they will have to fix it to a city standard.
On Thursday morning, the Lubbock City Council approved an ordinance that will help ensure a street or sidewalk is properly re-paved after utility cuts are made.
Marsha Reed, the Director of Public Works for the City of Lubbock said, "We're also going to be out there inspecting the utilities making sure they're compacting and putting the streets back together as they do their work. That will help in the long run as well because anything that doesn't get repaired correctly we'll have to fix through our streets department."
The ordinance requires the road or sidewalk to be restored to as good or better condition than before construction.
