NBC's Sunday Night Football Sports Commentator and NFL legend, John Madden talked to members of Congress Thursday about the fight against juvenile diabetes.
His oldest grandson, six-year-old Sam, was recently diagnosed with type-one diabetes. Madden asked members of Congress to renew the Special Diabetes Program. If the program is not renewed, federal support for type-one diabetes research will be cut by 35 percent.
During his speech to Congress Madden became emotional and said, "I know that if we stay with this, I didn't mean to get emotional, but sometimes you do, and I just want to thank everyone. But you know we are not there, but we are going to get there."
Madden told the legislators that he is not a spokesman for diabetes, just a grandfather who wants his grandson to have a better chance at fighting this disease
