Acid Reflux Drugs and Heart Disease

Posted:

There is good news for patients who use two popular drugs to treat acid reflux.  Earlier this year, the manufacturer of Prilosec and Nexium turned in data to the FDA that signaled a possible link between long term use of the drugs and heart problems.

After reviewing the manufacturer's data, along with 14 additional studies, the FDA reports that there does not appear to be an increased risk for heart trouble for those taking the over the counter acid reflux medications.  The FDA also concluded that any heart attacks that occurred in patients taking Prilosec or Nexium were coincidental.
