Gov. Rick Perry appointed Juan Sanchez Munoz of Lubbock to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2011. The TDHCA addresses a broad spectrum of housing and community development issues. It also oversees titling, licensing, inspection and enforcement of manufactured housing.
Munoz is an associate professor and special assistant to the president at Texas Tech University. He is a board member of the Lubbock Boys and Girls Club, South Plains Boys Scouts, and past board member of the Los Angeles Workforce Investment Youth Council. Munoz is commissioner of the Lubbock Housing Authority, and past commissioner of the San Bernardino Parks and Recreation, and San Bernardino Substance Abuse commissions. Additionally, he is a member of the Texas Lyceum, Texas Diversity Council and the American Education Research Association.
Munoz served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a master's degree from California State University, and a doctorate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Munoz replaces Shadrick Bogany of Missouri City.
This appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2008.
