Twelve weeks and nearly 3,700 pounds are now gone. That is how much 145 Get Fit Lubbock teams have dropped. Throughout the 3-month competition, NewsChannel 11 has followed the "DeJunkers", a team from UMC. The DeJunkers faced the scale one last time Monday morning.
"I lost 14 pounds total in 12 weeks," DeJunker Emilee Anderson said.
We first met the DeJunkers three months ago as they had their first measurements taken. Captain Tammy Segarra said, "We're getting our baseline numbers, we're going to take some measurements and even do body mass composition." Since then the DeJunkers have earned points losing weight, attending community fitness events and exercising. This for fellow DeJunker Dean Diersing has meant hours of ballroom dancing to lose 14 pounds.
"My diet didn't change until the very end and so I didn't have very good results until the very end," Diersing said. End results that for Dean and others was made possible by getting physical in new ways.
Britt Bilberry took up tennis. "It's a way to have some fun with the guys and get some exercise. So pretty much a win, win," Bilberry said. Others traded the treadmill for fitness classes."The classes have been so much fun. I've tried three," Tine Bilberry added."At home we're trying to eat better. So I know that we'll do better after this event," Anderson explained at the pep rally. Therefore, on weigh-in day all 10 Dejunker were smaller from inches to pounds. "115 pounds total lost so far for the whole team," Segarra explained. Over a 1,000 people took part in Get Fit Lubbock, which wrapped up on Tuesday.
To celebrate their success, there is a Get Fitter's 80's Ball Thursday night at seven o'clock at the Holiday Inn Park Plaza on South Loop 289. The Ball is free. There will be live music, dancing, and the announcement of the Get Fit Lubbock winners at eight o'clock.
