Christmas Lights Gone Wild

Two Lubbock homes are gaining fame across Lubbock because of their unique joint Christmas display.

Many have seen the videos on the Internet of houses with lights set to music, but you've probably never seen two houses working together to put on the show.

"Last year I saw on the Internet, I think most everybody saw the house floating around on YouTube," said Roger Metze.

Roger and neighbor Ed Day have taken it upon themselves to take their relatively ordinary homes and turn them into something a little brighter.

"He invited me to join in. Like I tell everybody, I think we figured out that we've been trying to one up each other every year since we've lived next door to each other and we figured it was probably going to get pretty expensive if we kept doing that," said Ed.

With the help of a personal computer, some special software, lots of cables and wires and some radio signals, these two guys have changed the look of their quiet little street in a big way.

"It's fun. I've been out here several nights now when the folks are driving by and there seems to be more and more cars every night," said Ed.

And what do their wives think?

"I think she's alright with it. It's a novelty," said Roger.

"She's very amused right now. She thought it was crazy to start off with, but every night we get e-mails from different places and it just seems to be getting bigger and bigger and bigger," said Ed.

Some Lubbockites said:

  • "I think it's a lot of fun."
  • "It's awesome."
  • "What's your favorite part about it? um the lights go on and off."
  • "I think it's really more than what I expected myself."

The show lasts about 20 minutes and I wanted to save the Christmas music for you to see yourself. If you would like to join in on the fun, it goes from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. every night through the New Year.

The address is 7511 and 7509 84th Street and when you get there simply turn your car radio to 88.7 FM and you can take in the holiday excitement for yourself.
