We know it can give a man's sex drive a boost, but new research finds Testosterone may do the same for his memory. Earlier studies have suggested there might be a brain benefit, but those looked at young men. This time at the University of California San Francisco, researchers studied 300 older men and found those with higher Testosterone levels did better on memory, language, and other mental tests than those with lower levels of the hormone.
Researchers say don't rush off to get Testosterone supplements without talking to your doctor first. The supplements can increase the risk of Prostate Cancer in some men, and they say it can also affect cholesterol levels, acne, and male pattern baldness.
Researchers note that their study measured natural Testosterone levels, not supplements, and say larger controlled studies are needed to study the effects and safety of Testosterone supplements. This study was conducted at the University of California San Francisco and is published in the April issue of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
