There is no concert set for George Straight to perform in Lubbock. Staff members at the United Spirit Arena say they have not confirmed plans for a 2008 concert. Fans, however, are finding seats for a March 7th concert for sale online.
Select-a-Seat is the United Spirit Arena's only ticket agent, and they do not have George Strait tickets for sale. That's why his name is not on the arena's marquee. You will find a performance scheduled on some ticket sales web sites, but we found out they don't have tickets either.
"We've been getting some phone calls from patrons asking about seating locations for the tickets that are on sale now, which obviously caught us by surprise, because we are still confirming the details of the concert, and so it's not on sale now," United Spirit Arena Associate Director Cindy Harper said.
If they're not on sale, how are they showing up online? NewsChannel 11 found out, they're really not. Sites like Tix-2-Event, Ticket City, and Stub Hub have what look like seats for sale, but when you read the fine print, you actually find out they don't have the tickets. We learned you can purchase what's like a reservation for seats in a certain section, but the Unite Spirit Arena is seeing some problems there too.
"Right now, there are some posted on row S. The sections, I think, are legitimate, but as far as row S, we don't have a row S in the arena," Harper said.
Buying from sites, other than Select-a-Seat, which is United Spirit Arena's only ticket agent, also opens up other potential problems.
"First of all, they may be paying way above face value of the ticket. We're seeing some posted close to $600 to $700 each, whereas George Strait, the last time he was here, the top price was around $65," Harper said.
"That also opens them up for the opportunity to be purchasing counterfeit or stolen or duplicated tickets that aren't valid for the United Spirit Arena," Harper added.
Those tickets will be confiscated and the holders won't be allowed inside.
United Spirit Arena hopes to host the show, but...
"We're in negotiations with the George Straight management and promoter right now, but the routing for the tour continues to evolve, so we're not able to confirm it right now, because the plans continue to change. It could potentially be a different date, so we're still waiting on those details," Harper said.
GeorgeStrait.com also has March 7th listed as a concert date in Lubbock. We asked Harper about that. She says there have been shows posted on tour web sites that never came to Lubbock.
We did find some of the ticket sales web sites have return policies, and some say the ticket is still good for a different date. Others say they're not responsible, and that you'd have to go through the actual ticket seller to try to get a refund.
If you've purchased a ticket, call the site you bought your ticket from to find out their policy.
