A Lubbock pedestrian has become our city's first traffic fatality of 2008.
Juanita Alvarado Perez, 56, was reportedly struck by a car in the 4200 block of Erskine, in north Lubbock. It happened just after 12:30 a.m Tuesday Morning.
When police arrived at the scene, they immediately blocked off traffic to the area, keeping everyone at a distance for several hours.
Police say Perez was walking alone, when she was struck by a Lincoln headed eastbound.
EMS took her to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Lincoln, a 28 year old man from Amherst, was treated for minor injuries.
Police say this accident is still under investigation. No names have been released in this accident.
