It's time for another serving of Food for Thought, and this week, Top Performers are nowhere to be found. No perfect scores this time around! You might be saying, that's cold! Something else that's cold, aside from our unlikely weather, the treats our only Low Performer specializes in. Will you want to give them the cold shoulder when you hear about their violations? Let's see when we thaw out this edition of Food for Thought

Our only Low Performer this week is Oasis Shaved Ice inside South Plains Mall at 6002 Slide Road. That's where inspectors found five critical violations. Violations including:

• An open beverage sitting on a freezer next to a fryer.
• Dishes were being dumped and washed in a hand sink, hand sinks should be used only for hand washing purposes.
• Employees were found not washing their hands and reusing single use gloves repeatedly.
• Sanitizer was not being used.
• Food containers were being rinsed but not washed or sanitized. Utensils were soiled and ice in a freezer was not protected.

Other violations included a non-working faucet at a dish sink and a damaged freezer door.

Management of Oasis Shaved Ice told us they were cited for minor things and the employee who left the drink on the freezer top was a new employee and only put the drink there for a second when the inspector was there. Management says everything was corrected while the inspector was there. The inspection report also states that all violations have been corrected.
