A new recommendation is out from the American Academy of Pediatrics, in regard to shielding kids from allergies. The AAP report says that by exclusively breastfeeding for at least four months, new moms may delay or prevent atopic diseases like eczema, asthma and food allergies.
The protective effect could last for at least the first two years of life, especially benefits babies who are at high risk for allergies. The high risk group refers to babies that have a parent or sibling with some of those problems.
This clinical report is published in Pediatrics, January, 2008.
