Bread and Folic Acid

Women of childbearing age have been told for some time to get plenty of folic acid because it protects against birth defects.  Now the March of Dimes, in conjunction with The Grain Foods Foundation, is taking that effort a step further by labeling bread that has been enriched with folic acid.

The new labels remind women that they can get another dose of folic acid just by choosing the right bread.  The March of Dimes says that about 12 percent of women still don't know that they need folic acid even before pregnancy to help protect against birth defects.
