Large Grass Fire Extinguished After Four Hours

It took four and a half hours, but Lamesa firefighters were finally able to extinguish a major grass fire Saturday.

Fire investigators say they are not sure what sparked the fire 11 miles northwest of Lamesa around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. A large cloud of smoke could be seen rising in the distance.

Firefighters estimate the fire destroyed 120 to 160 acres of land. Fortunatley no one was injured and no homes were threatened.
