Marion "Smitty" Smith has filed an application for the Lubbock County Libertarian Party's Texas State Senate nomination according to Lubbock County Libertarian Chair, Brad Clardy.
Smith, a self employed owner of a private water utility and grandfather, said he is running "to give the people an opportunity to vote for someone else the opportunity to say no to the incumbent."
Smith said less government and lower taxes would be a top priority with him.
The Libertarian Party is the nation's third largest political party who has been fielding candidates for office since 1974.
