That nice big bed of yours may give 'you' a good night's sleep, but it could be a death trap for a baby. That's the message the Consumer Product Safety Commission is trying to get out. Today (5.3), the agency started a public awareness campaign. It wants parents to know that putting babies to sleep in an adult bed can be deadly.
Over the past three years at least 180 children under 2 years-old have died while sleeping in adult beds. Some have gotten trapped between the bed and the wall or another object, others have been suffocated by pillows or blankets. "We are warning parents to never place babies to sleep in adult beds. The safest place for babies to sleep is in a crib that meets current safety standards," says Thomas Moore of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The CPSC did offer some sleep safety tips.
