South Lubbock Woman Allegedly Assaulted in Her Sleep

Lubbock police are looking into a weekend stabbing that sent one woman to the hospital with multiple injuries.

Investigators say Maria Gordillo, 38, went to bed around 11:45 p.m. Friday. When she awoke, her husband was allegedly on top of her with a knife. Gordillo told police he hit her in the mouth with the end of the knife, knocking out some teeth. She says when she tried to grab the knife, the blade cut her hand. Gordillo says her husband then stabbed her in the head multiple times.

Maria Gordillo was treated and released from University Medical Center. As of Monday evening, her husband has not been charged. Police are still looking into the incident. Their report will be given to the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney's office, who could file charges in the future.
