Federal Campaign Focuses on Teen Prescription Abuse

The White House announced a campaign Thursday to keep teenagers from abusing prescription drugs. Starting in February, parents will see public service announcements along with print and online advertisements urging them to safeguard their prescription drugs.

White House Drug Czar, John Walters, said the ads are aimed at educating parents about how easy it is for teens to find and experiment with mom and dad's pills. Walters said, "The majority of teens who abuse prescription pain relievers say they're easy to get and they're usually free because they take them out of medicine cabinets of their own parents, their friends or their neighbors."

So, Walters is urging parents to do whatever they can to protect their prescriptions and to make sure kids know the rules.
