Pretrial For Former New Deal Police Chief

Posted:

New Deal's former Police Chief was in court on Friday.

Sam Butler was at the Lubbock County Courthouse on Friday, for his pretrial hearing. A grand jury indicted Butler last February on charges of aggravated perjury, credit card abuse, and theft by a public servant.

In December 2006, the New Deal City Council relieved Butler of his duties as Police Chief. The Council claimed he was spending city money without city approval and evidence was missing from the police evidence locker.

If he is convicted, Butler could face anywhere from 180 days to two years behind bars.
