Each year, University Medical Center hosts a gala that benefits the Children's Miracle Network.
Cameron Weddle was the featured Miracle Kid at Saturday night's event. The 4-year-old was diagnosed with Leukemia in June of last year. He immediately started weekly treatments at the Children's Hospital at UMC and will continue with the treatments for about three more years.
Cameron and his older brother Bryce are huge Texas Tech football fans with Cameron's favorite player being Red Raider quarterback Graham Harrell, and what a surprise it was when during Cameron's introduction to the gala in walks the QB.
"To have this opportunity to make (his) day! He's a really special kid. It's a very humbling experience," Harrell said.
Cameron's mom, Misty, thanked UMCS and CMN for giving them a wonderful night to remember, "Just to tell you how much this means to our family. This is a way for us to make a little bit of lemonade out of our lemons."
The money raised goes to provide the latest medical equipment and services to children of the South Plains and Eastern New Mexico. The 25th Annual Children's Miracle Network Celebration is this June on NewsChannel 11.
