The American Academy of Pediatrics is urging a major network to pull a TV show this week over concern that the show may cause parents to shy away from getting their children immunized. The show is "Eli Stone" and it airs on ABC this Thursday. It features a lawyer in the first episode who argues in court that a vaccine caused a child's autism.
It's all fiction, but in the story, the jury agrees with the lawyer. Most medical experts do not agree. In fact, the AAP insists that there is no scientific evidence of a vaccine/autism link. So, this nationwide group of pediatricians has written a letter to ABC executives warning that they (ABC) will be responsible for the needless suffering and deaths from children whose parents who opted not to immunize based on their TV episode.
