The Texas Department of Transportation will close the intersection at Quaker Avenue and the Brownfield Highway on Saturday to allow contractors to place beams for bridge structures.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in all four directions approaching the intersection. Northbound Quaker Avenue traffic will be detoured along the eastbound frontage road to a turnaround located a quarter of a mile east of the intersection. Southbound Quaker Avenue traffic will also be detoured along the westbound frontage road to another turnaround just west of Quaker.
The intersection will be closed for more than a week, from Saturday, February 2 through Sunday, February 10, opening the following day before the early morning commute. Traffic changes and closures are part of Phase 2 of the Marsha Sharp Freeway project, a $131 million project scheduled for completion in early 2009.
