Two years after changing golf balls in the middle of a record-setting season, Tiger Woods says that he's very close to making another switch, this time to Nike Golf irons. Woods has been working with several sets of the irons over the past year. A turning point came last week during the Byron Nelson Classic when he went to Fort Worth's Shady Oaks Country Club to work with Nike club designer Tom Stites.
Woods didn't say when he would change from the Titleist forged irons he's used since early 1998, but Woods tells the Associated Press he expects to have the new irons in his bag by the end of the year. Woods has been affiliated with Nike since the day he turned professional. In September 2000, he renewed a five-year contract worth more than $100 million.
