Lubbock County Commissioners Issue Immediate Burn Ban
Lubbock County Commissioners called an emergency meeting Friday morning, where they voted to issue a county wide burn ban, effective immediately. This comes after weeks of dry conditions, and winds have fueled grass fires in the area.
"Restrictions on a burn ban are no outdoor burning, not trash, brush, grass, outdoor grills," said Bill McCay, Lubbock County Commissioner. "I know it's Super Bowl weekend, but any outdoor fire could be suspect."
Just this week, Governor Rick Perry declared an emergency disaster proclamation for most counties, including 20 on the South Plains. With a burn ban now in affect, Lubbock County would be eligible for state assistance, in case of an emergency.
Unless the weather conditions change, the burn ban will remain in effect for 90 days.
