Sheryl Swoopes, who missed all of last season after tearing a ligament in her left knee, had 22 points, six rebounds, and five assists on Monday night to lead the Houston Comets to a 78 - 62 WNBA exhibition victory over the Detroit Shock.
Swoopes was the league's MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and leading scorer in 2000. It was her first game since she tore the ACL in her left knee during a pre-season workout in April of 2001.
She underwent reconstructive surgery eight days later and missed the 2001 season. Playing without Swoopes and the retired Cynthia Cooper, the Comets were beaten by Los Angeles in the first round of the playoffs, snapping their string of four consecutive league titles. They had won the championship in each year of the league's existence.
