Texas Tech University announced Monday the launch of an official channel developed in cooperation with online video giant YouTube.
YouTube is the leading online video community that allows people to discover, watch and share originally created videos.
Sporting banners and wallpaper designed by internationally acclaimed designer and Texas Tech assistant professor Dirk Fowler, the page offers videos covering the gamut from academics and research to the best of campus life.
Texas Tech also has devoted a playlist to user-submitted content, meaning that Red Raiders can develop their own videos for posting. Got a video camera? You could be a campus celebrity. Just upload videos to YouTube and contact Texas Tech's Office of Communications and Marketing for possible inclusion as a Texas Tech favorite or in the playlist. Additionally, the channel will serve as a novel forum for faculty to post lectures or related teaching content online.
"If Texas Tech is to keep its message relevant - especially with the young adults it hopes to attract and retain as students - it must remain abreast of and utilize emerging, popular new forms of communication," said Texas Tech President Jon Whitmore. "The beauty of YouTube is that it not only allows our university to tell its story in one of the largest online forums available, but also gives students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans the opportunity to act as our ambassadors by submitting and sharing content."
YouTube allows people to upload and share video clips easily on YouTube and across the Internet through Websites, blogs, and e-mail. Access Texas Tech's YouTube channel by visiting their channel (click here).
