Fatal Accident Claims Another Life

A second person is dead following a head on collision near Wilson Monday morning.

According to DPS troopers, a pickup was headed westbound on FM 211 just before 9 a.m., and a car was driving eastbound. At a curve in the road, just west of Wilson, the Ford Taurus crossed the center median, colliding head on with a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab pickup.

The driver of the car, Antonio Riojas IV, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews used the jaws of life to remove his passenger Santanna Flores, 21, of Wilson. EMS transported her to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, where she died around 11:30pm Monday.

Aerocare flew the driver of the pickup, Michael Steuart, 41, of Levelland, to Covenant with serious injuries. He remains in stable condition.

Steuart told authorities that the Taurus suddenly swerved into his lane at the curve, and the collision could not be avoided. No charges are expected.

Officials with the Lynn County Sheriff's Office, Lynn County DPS, the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department, and Lynn County EMS all responded to the scene.
