Benefit Concert for Musician Doug Smith

If you don't have plans for Valentine's Day just yet here's a way to make your sweetheart swoon while helping a local musician.

A benefit concert for composer and pianist Doug Smith is this Thursday at 7:30pm at the Civic Center. More than a dozen artists will perform - including Don Caldwell, Jay Boy Adams and Leslie Sawyer. Tickets are $23 - $33. They can be purchased at Select-a-Seat.

"This is one great night of entertainment, and if you didn't know a thing about Doug Smith you'll want to spend your $23 just to come out and hear this line-up of performer, but add Doug Smith to that and the benefit for Doug, and it's a bargain," Andy Wilkinson, Smith's friend and a fellow musician, said.

Smith was injured in a near fatal rollover near Acuff in July 2007. He is now home, but is a quadriplegic. Money raised in the benefit will go to help pay Smith's medical bills.
