Fundraiser Benefiting "Cowboy" Fred Ortiz - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

The teens he mentored are trying to repay his generosity, but they need your help.

The Up and Coming Scholars will hold a fundraiser Tuesday evening in honor of the late "Cowboy" Fred Ortiz.

The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Golden Palace, located at 1911 Clovis Road. A lite dinner will be served, followed by a program honoring "Cowboy" Fred.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students 17 and under. The proceeds will help cover medical bills.

Ortiz was an advocate for children and senior citizens. He lost his battle to cancer in late January.
