Jury selection in the Rosendo Rodriguez capital murder case begins Thursday in Canyon, Texas. Judge Jim Bob Darnell granted a change of venue last month, after finding too much prejudice to give Rodriguez a fair trial in Lubbock county.
Rodriguez is charged with capital murder in the death of Summer Baldwin and her unborn child. Her body was found inside a suitcase at the Lubbock landfill in 2005.
Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney Matt Powell is seeking the death penalty against Rodriguez. In 2006, Rodriguez rejected a plea deal that would have given him life in prison.
Rodriguez also reportedly confessed to killing Lubbock teen, Joanna Rogers, but he is not charged in that case.
