Each of the following, unless otherwise noted, include a variety of asana (yoga poses), pranayama (control of the breath), and meditation appropriate for the respective level of experience. Satya, honesty, is an important aspect of a healthy yoga practice. Attend classes and events that are appropriate for your needs, desires, and experience-level. If you have any questions about the classes, or the schedule in general, please speak with any Lubbock Yoga teacher. All participants are encouraged to modify or refrain from postures which are not appropriate, and questions are always welcomed.
ESSENTIALS/GENTLE YOGA- Appropriate for everyone. Classes include the fundamentals of yoga postures and breath. The approach to movement is slowly paced and investigative, often leading to a relief from tension and chronic stiffness. It is a great opportunity to learn if you have little or no previous experience, or is an equally beneficial refresher for those who already have a practice.
INTERMEDIATE YOGA- Appropriate for those with at least 6-12 months of experience. This invigorating practice includes holding the postures longer and includes more attention to pranayama (control of the breath). Expect more balancing postures and other movements which will prepare the body and mind for inversions, backbends, and deeper meditation.
DYNAMIC YOGA- Appropriate for those with at least 12 months of experience. This 100-minute class utilizes the strength and flexibility gained from an ongoing yoga practice. The movement will include more advanced arm balances, inversions, backbends, and pranayama.
ALL-LEVELS YOGA- Appropriate for most. Practicing in a mixed-group atmosphere lends an opportunity to learn what is most appropriate for you in any given situation. The class is moderately paced with an emphasis on self-care and attention to detail.
PERSONAL PRACTICE-Appropriate for everyone. This time is reserved for those who wish to have a practice without the company of other students or the guidance of a teacher. There is no formal beginning or end; you are only asked to enter and exit quietly to avoid disrupting others' practice.
CASH ONLY- $5 flat fee for ALL in attendance; no exceptions.
MEDITATION- Appropriate for everyone, little or no asana. As the week draws to a close, it is beneficial for the body and mind to take time to find stillness and ease from a meditative experience which may be either guided or unguided.
RESTORATIVE YOGA- Appropriate for everyone. A restorative practice is an extremely gentle experience which leads to deep relaxation and stress-relief. You may consider bringing your own firm pillow, cozy blanket, or eye mask. Other necessary props are supplied.
SATURDAY WORKSHOP- Appropriate for most. This content of this monthly event will vary. It will provide an opportunity to study a variety of yoga topics and concepts much more in depth than a typical class will allow. Check the calendar often for new information.
YOGA SUTRAS- All are welcome. Patanjali's Yoga Sutras is an ancient text which examines the science of the mind. Studying the Sutras is generally thought of as a way to enhance your yoga practice by being a guide towards improved physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual balance. This is a discussion class (little or no asana), and no previous experience is necessary.
PARTNER YOGA- Appropriate for most. Sometimes yoga is a contact sport. And, it is very fun! Sharing the experience of flexibility, balance, and awareness with another is a great way to enhance your own practice and open your heart. The class is moderately paced, and the movement may include working individually, paired, or grouped with three or more. No "previously-selected yoga buddy" necessary, one will be provided.
108 SUN SALUTATIONS- Appropriate for most, some experience recommended. The number 108 is very significant in traditional yoga custom, and performing 108 Sun Salutations is a great way to challenge your Self on the mat. Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) is a flowing sequence of asanas designed to create flexibility, strength, and concentration.
