Two Victims Critical After Head-On Collision Near Ransom Canyon

Two people are hospitalized after a head on collision in east Lubbock county.

Two Aerocare helicopters and three "jaws of life" were called to the scene of the wreck, on FM 835, just west of the entrance to Ransom Canyon.

Several agencies responded, including Texas Department of Public Safety. Corporal John Gonzalez said the driver of the Chevy, Justin Dutton, 17, was eastbound around 9:30 a.m. Friday, when he tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. He collided head on with a lexus, driven by Patsy Carol, 58.

It took emergency crews nearly an hour to free both victims. Aerocare flew Dutton to University Medical Center. And a second helicopter flew Carol to Covenant Medical Center.

Both victims are listed in critical condition, at last report. Fortunately their injuries are not considered life threatening.
