New Use for Zoloft

If you've seen the commercials for Zoloft, you know it's a drug for depression and panic disorder. But now, the Food and Drug Administration has given its approval to use Zoloft in the treatment of a severe form of premenstrual syndrome known as PMDD.

PMDD is characterized by intense emotional and physical symptoms that occur during the time between ovulation and menstruation, and is supposed to be more severe than PMS. In the article, wall street analysts say they are not excited over Pfizer's news nor by secondary uses for drugs in general, and critics say too many drugs are being pushed for too many questionable uses.

Zoloft works for such things as depression, panic disorder. It is a medicine that helps correct the chemical imbalance of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a naturally occurring chemical in the brain that is involved in the transmission of messages between nerve cells.
