We've all heard that eating whole grain foods is healthy and now new research from Pennsylvania State University published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows they can help improve your heart and reduce the amount belly fat that you have.
Researchers divided a group of 50 obese men and women into two groups. Both groups cut calories, but one group was told to eat whole grain foods while the other ate refined grains.
Both groups lost weight, but the whole grains group lost more fat around the middle and their CRP levels, which measure blood vessel inflammation, dropped by 38%. Experts say to look for foods that contain at least 51% whole grain, like oatmeal, brown rice and barley.
