Fatal End to East Lubbock Standoff, One Arrest

Posted: Updated:

A morning stand-off in east Lubbock ends with one man dead, and another in police custody.

Investigators tell NewsChannel 11 that John Lockard, 37, shot R.K. Flippin, 95, just after 9:00 a.m. Saturday.  Police say Flippin was Lockard's grandfather.  The shooting happened inside their home at 407 Vanda in east Lubbock.

According to authorities a mother and a group of young children were inside the home at the time of the shooting.  They ran next door and called 911.  That's when investigators say Lockard barricaded himself inside the home with Flippin.  S.W.A.T. officers responded to the scene, and Lockard surrendered about an hour later.

When police entered the home, they found Flippin dead from a shotgun wound to the neck.  Lockard is now Lubbock Police custody, on a charge of capital murder.

NewsChannel 11 is continuing to gather details on this case.  We'll bring you the latest tonight on NewsChannel 11 at Six.
