Kids Lose Weight When TV is Off

Posted:

According to a study from the University of Buffalo, cutting down on TV time can help overweight kids lose weight.

Researchers took 75 kids who had been classified as overweight and had been encouraged by their doctors to lose weight. Half of the kids had a monitoring device installed in their TV and computer that turned the device off after a certain amount of time, limiting their viewing time. The other group had no limits.

Researchers found that when kids cut back on their TV and computer usage by 50% they became more active- therefore losing weight and consuming fewer calories.

The two year study is published in The Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
