Two Killed, Two Critically Injured In North Lubbock Crash

Emergency crews were still working a deadly accident in north Lubbock at 10:00 p.m. Monday.  That's nearly four hours after it happened.  Police tell NewsChannel 11 it's one of the worst crashes they've ever seen.

Police say the accident happened just after 6:00 p.m. Monday.  Investigators say a tractor trailer was headed southbound when it blew a stop sign and smashed into a Chevrolet pick-up. The pick-up was westbound on the north loop access road.

Emergency crews cut a male and female out of the tractor trailer using the jaws of life. Aerocare flew one to University Medical Center.  The other was flown to Covenant Medical Center.  Both had critical, life threatening injuries.

Police also tell us two people in the pick-up were killed.  Earlier authorities told us the pick-up was so badly damaged that they could not tell if the driver was the only person inside or not.  They confirmed two deaths just before 10:00 p.m.

"The tractor trailer completely disintegrated it into the cement pillar that holds up the bridge, so it's probably one of the worst collisions that could have happened, a side collision from a tractor trailer," Lubbock Police Lt. Greg Stevens.

Authorities could not release the names or ages of the victims Monday night.

Traffic at the north loop and I-27 was still being diverted when NewsChannel 11 left the scene around 10:15 p.m. Monday.

We will bring you the latest Tuesday morning on Daybreak Today.

Crews are on the scene of a fire at 24th Street and Avenue U.  Scanner traffic indicates this is possibly a vacant, single-story home. We're also hearing emergency crews received several calls from people nearby who are worried the fire could spread to their homes. There is heavy damage to the outside of the building. The Fire Marshal has been called to the scene.  KCBD has a crew on the scene and we will continue to update this story as we receive more information. ...
