USB Gives Patients Information at Their Fingertips
Gathering medical records can be expensive, not to mention a hassle and it can take a long time. Some doctors are putting their patients' medical records into the hands of those patients by giving each patient a USB drive that contains their entire medical history.
Dr. Robin Hall, a board certified family practitioner in Dallas, says that she is making this service available to her patients because she thinks it will cut down on medical errors.
Dr. Hall says, "Data is power and it can save lives. If it's an emergency it's in their hands." And her patient Jackie Dudding adds, "It really gives you peace of mind to know that you have all your medical records with you. God forbid something happens, everything a caretaker needs to know is on this thing."
With that USB drive, patients can check their medical records online through the Vital Key website, the company that keeps all the records. Dr. Hall says that by looking over their own records, patients can check for any mistakes. If the patient loses his USB drive, the doctor still has the original and Vita Link will immediately erase the lost copy by remote control.
