Lady Raiders to Play in WNIT

The Texas Tech women's basketball team has been selected to play in the 2008 Postseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). The Lady Raiders (16-15) received a first round bye and will host the winner of the Prairie View A&M-Texas State game on Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena.

Prairie View A&M (21-11) and Texas State (20-10) play in the first round on Thurs., March 20, in San Marcos, Texas.

Tech is one of 48 teams to be chosen for the WNIT and one of three Big 12 schools competing in the tournament.

"We are excited that our team will get to experience postseason play," said head coach Kristy Curry. "With us only having one senior, it will be a great learning experience for our team."

The winner of the game will advance to the third round and play TCU, Idaho State or Boise State. Site of the third round game will be determined after the second round game.

All games in the single-elimination format are played at the home facilities of participating schools. First round games are scheduled for March 19-21, while second round games will be played March 22-24. The third round will take place March 26-28. The quarterfinals are March 29-31, while the semifinals are April 2-3, and the championship game on April 5.

For tickets to Texas Tech's WNIT game on Saturday, please contact (888) GO-BIG-12 or (806) 742-TECH or stop by the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office in the north end of Jones AT&T Stadium.
