Dallas Flooding Diverts Flights to Lubbock

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for east Texas through Tuesday evening and a flash flood watch for north to east Texas through Wednesday morning.

The control tower at DFW airport was evacuated for a short time, after a funnel cloud was spotted. The strong winds and rains also grounded hundreds of flights there, and at Love Field.

Many of those flights still in the air came to the South Plains instead. At least eight planes landed at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport to ride out the storm. Airport officials say the flights departed as soon as the weather cleared.
