Citibus Riders React After Possible Routes Cancellations

Talks of putting the breaks on two of Lubbock's newest bus routes is causing some concern for those who rely them.  Citibus routes 20 and 82 service west Lubbock between 43rd Street and 82nd Street and from Slide to Milwaukee, but they could be halted all together.

Cassandra Ratcliff was one of only a handful of people who attended a public hearing Monday evening about the possible cancellation of the routes. Ratcliff has to walk a mile to get to the stop for Route 20, but she says it is the only bus that takes her to and from work.

"They're trying to get rid of two routes in two of the most developing areas of the city where all the new jobs are where all the new homes are being built. They're giving up to soon on a route that's only been in existence for 12 to 13 months."

Bus Routes 20 and 82 were started last March, but since they haven't generated as much revenue as expected the future of the routes is in question.  "Money. It's all about money, it really does not matter about the riders and the riders with jobs whose tax money is paying for these buses to begin with, and that absolutely ticks me off."

If you were unable to make Monday's hearing, a second one will be at noon Tuesday at the main Citibus Office at 801 Texas.
